By His Grace
A Christ centered 12 step support group for women struggling with compulsive eating.
As Christians, we are not immune from addictions or compulsive behaviors. Because food is so prevalent in our society, many of us don’t notice that we’ve begun to use eating or dieting as a method of coping. Overeating, anorexia, bulimia, and compulsive eating are all existing conditions in our church. Once we’ve become enslaved, we may find that we make an extra effort to hide our weakness in an effort to avoid judgment or rejection from fellow Christians. We try to convince ourselves that if we just pray a little harder, memorize more verses, or attend just one more Bible study that God will free us. BY HIS GRACE is a support group for women seeking victory over compulsive eating or dieting. We have seen God at work in women’s lives this past year as they have dared to be honest about their struggles and surrender their own ways of managing their lives to God.
In By His Grace we strive to achieve a casual, safe atmosphere in which we can be honest about our victories and our struggles. We examine and apply scripture relevant to our situations and encourage each other with prayer, fellowship, and God's work in our lives. Accountability, daily devotion time, scripture memorization, prayer, meditation, and journaling are emphasized as some practical means of escaping the pull of our habits. We are not a professional group and no one among us will serve as a therapist. We are committed to learning a way of life that is in line with God's will for us, so that we can be of utmost use to Him and glorify Him by our choices.
We meet every Tuesday, 7:30 - 8:45pm in room B-1. Any questions, email or call Karen or Suzanne at the church office. (610) 446-9201.
